The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has initiated the demolition of 50 illegally constructed duplexes and bungalows in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja. The exercise, led by TPL Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, aims to enforce city planning regulations and curb illegal land use.
Galadima explained that these structures were erected by land grabbers without the necessary approvals. He highlighted that the affected area, located in the southwest part of Sabon Lugbe, falls under Phase 5 of the Federal Capital City (FCC). He further emphasized the importance of conducting due diligence before purchasing property, warning buyers to verify the legality of land transactions to avoid issues.
The demolition operation began with 10 buildings, with plans to continue until all 50 illegal structures are cleared. Galadima reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to upholding development rules, warning that illegal constructions would not be tolerated in the capital. He identified other areas affected by unauthorized developments, including the Idu Train Station, Gosa, Kyami, Apo Tarfi, and Lugbe.
Addressing misconceptions, Galadima clarified that claims of these areas being integrated into Phase 5 of the FCC were false. He stressed, “Illegality is illegality, and we will persist in removing all unauthorized structures within the FCT.”
