The Kano State government has unveiled a significant new initiative aimed at supporting residents displaced by recent flood disasters.

In a statement released on Thursday by Governor Abba Yusuf’s media aide, Sunusi Bataure, it was announced that the state will construct new homes for those affected by the floods. This decision was revealed during the weekly State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that this measure is intended to alleviate the impacts of flooding by providing affected families with secure and suitable housing.

In addition to housing, the state government is partnering with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to deliver essential food and non-food items to flood victims.

Furthering their support, the administration plans to distribute chairs and desks to 220,000 students across basic and post-basic schools in the first phase of the aid program.

Governor Yusuf also expressed satisfaction with the smooth start of the 2024/2025 academic session and pledged to rehabilitate school infrastructure. In alignment with the Declaration of Emergency on Education, free uniforms will be provided to all Primary One pupils.

The governor has called on all stakeholders to collaborate in achieving the state’s educational objectives.
