In a significant move to enhance the welfare of civil servants, the Federal Government has commenced the construction of 216 housing units in Abuja. The initiative, part of the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) program, was officially launched by Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the outgoing Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) in Kubwa, Abuja, where Yemi-Esan, alongside the Head of Service designate, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, and several Permanent Secretaries, also inaugurated a newly constructed indoor Sports Complex.
Dr. Yemi-Esan emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to delivering quality affordable housing, ensuring that civil servants are included in these national development efforts. She urged the contractors to adhere strictly to the project’s design specifications and complete the construction on time.
The newly inaugurated Sports Complex, named in honor of Dr. Yemi-Esan, was praised by PSIN Administrator Dr. Abdul-Ganiyu Obatoyinbo as a lasting legacy of her dedication to civil servants’ welfare. He highlighted that the Sports Centre and the housing project align with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 goals, which aim to enhance staff welfare and boost productivity.
Dr. Yemi-Esan also encouraged civil servants to engage in regular physical exercise, noting the benefits for mental health and overall well-being. Dr. Obatoyinbo shared this view, stating that the new Sports Complex will serve as a vital resource for stress relief and mental wellness, supporting the broader goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
